If cricket is considered as one of the religions of India, there should be no doubt in saying that Indian Premiere League (IPL) is like one of the most celebrated festivals of the nation for all the die-hard cricket lovers.
Completing a decade now, IPL has created a buzz yet again this year in the entire world. The series premiere starting with the bang with the two of the most anticipated teams competing against each other – Mumbai Indians & Chennai Super Kings, had all eyes on themselves during the two days nerve wracking auction.
Both the teams managed to retain their three most wanted players, namely Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah for Mumbai Indians and M.S. Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja for CSK. While Mumbai Indians reserved their RTM (Right to match) card for Kierron Pollard and Krunal Pandya, the most expensive uncapped Indian player of IPL 2018 auction, CSK used their RTM card to retain Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir and Faf du Plessis, spending a total of 9 cr. on the trio.
Reasons to look out for Mumbai Indians retained players:
Rohit Sharma – There is a reason why Rohit Sharma is known as ‘the hitman’ of the Indian cricket team and Mumbai Indians are just not ready to lose him as their captain. Under his captaincy Mumbai Indians has not just won the titles for three alternative years – 2013, 2015 & 2017, but also scored a notable century against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012. The right-handed brilliant batsman with the highest ODIs score in his name is definitely the cricketer to look out for this season.
Hardik Pandya – This ‘wonder-boy’ all rounder turned all heads in IPL 2015 with his dynamic performance of 61* off 31 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders. His outstanding performance against Australia in his international T20 debut and against Bangladesh in ICC T20 World Cup 2016 removed all doubts anyone had regarding his selection. This sharp-eyed fielder, strong batsman and accurate bowler is someone to watch out for this premiere for sure.
Jasprit Bumrah – This right-armed pacer, nicknamed as Jasprit ‘Boom’ Bumrah has been known to cover the right footsteps of Malinga. His pin-point Yorkers and lethal bowling prowess was the reason he scored 15 wickets in IPL 2016 and impressive 28 in T20 Internationals 2016, making him the leading wicket-keeper that year. With his consistent jaw dropping performances and threat to other teams, Mumbai Indians were bound to have this unconventional yet reliable bowler retained in their franchisee.
Reasons to look out for Chennai Super Kings retained players:
M.S. Dhoni – If Shakespeare says ‘what’s there in a name?’ then the cricket fans say ‘you must never have heard of M.S. Dhoni’, because frankly the name says it all. With the strike rate of 135.03 and 5577 runs in total of 277 matches, M.S. Dhoni is nothing less than a cricket miracle. With innumerous trophies like T20 World Cup 2007, World Cup 2011 (50 overs), three ICC Global Trophies, Champions Trophy 2013, twice IPL winner, and quite a handful more, neither Chennai Super Kings can afford to lose their team’s biggest asset and threat nor M.S. Dhoni can betray his loyalty towards his beloved team.
Suresh Raina – With his eight seasons of consistent outstanding performance for Chennai Super Kings, he is sure to give the other teams a run for their money. The highest run-maker of IPL after ten seasons with total of 4540 runs, the proud deputy of M.S. Dhoni has been retained by the team to increase their chances towards the trophy this year.
Ravindra Jadeja – This orthodox left-armed bowler, left handed hard-hitting batsman and perhaps the best fielder of the Indian cricket team is the all-rounder everyone is looking out for. Described as ‘Rockstar’ by none other than Shane Warne himself, this player is nothing but an never-losing asset for the Chennai Super Kings.
