A batsman who is dismissed, usually run-out or stumped without facing any ball or disturbing the score is said to be getting out on a diamond duck or simply duck. One of the most embarrassing situations for any batsman that even the highest-ranking batsmen have not been able to avoid at times.
IPL being a game of timing and rush has seen many good, average and even great players getting out on a duck. Let’s have a look at the players with the highest number of ducks in the IPL history.
- Manish Pandey – 11 ducks.
There is no doubt that Manish Pandey is one of the pillars of strength in Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad. The star performer has been an integral part of KKR’s success in 2014 and has an average of 28.39 in the IPL so far. But like said, even the good players can’t seem to stay protected from the ducks.
- Piyush Chawla – 11 ducks.
Sharing the position with Manish Pandey we have another Kolkata Knight Riders player, Piyush Chawla. In his defense, his lower order in the batting list does put him under a lot of pressure given that this player’s forte stays in bowling as a spinner. But his deteriorating batting performance can put him in question in the upcoming years.
- Gautam Gambhir – 12 ducks.
This name might come as a surprise as this top order batsman has impressive career record and some really memorable performances in his bag. With a total of 4132 runs in 147 innings and two IPL titles for Kolkata Knight Riders under his captaincy, Gautam Gambhir’s worst memories would be nothing but the 12 ducks he had to face in his IPL career.
- Parthiv Patel – 12 ducks.
Though this 32 year old aggressive batsman has a decent record of 2322 runs in 117 IPL innings, Parthiv Patel is yet to convince the audience with his consistency with the white balls. His impressive performances in the domestic cricket is what his fans would like to see this IPL and certainly not a reminder of the 12 ducks in his IPL career.
- Harbhajan Singh – 13 ducks.
This fiery Punjabi lad is unbeatable in his spinning techniques but when it comes to batting, his equally over-enthusiastic approach to the ball to hit the boundaries can act badly which has been witnessed by the 13 ducks he has faced in his IPL career. With a total of 799 runs in total with a strike rate of 142.4 in his IPL career, Harbhajan Singh top the list of highest ducks with the total of 13.
