As the Indian Premier League season 11 gets closer, people are rushing with more excitement and speculations all around. From which team is going to bang the trophy home this year to who’s going to be the man of the league, the predictions are never ending. With a country obsessed with cricket, the Indians do not fail to show their passion and love to their favorite players, be it on-field or off-field.
Amongst these buzz, the another highly discussed topic of debate is who is arguably the top most over-rated players of the Indian team this year in the IPL? Well, no one says these following players are not talented or qualified enough, but the question is whether they are actual worth all the hype this session.
5 Most Overrated Indian Players of the season
Jaydev Unadkat – This young 26-year-old left arm medium-fast bowler may have named the highest bid this IPL season but this surprise turn of events did not just surprise the audience but the player himself. An outrageous bid of 11.5 Cr. by Rajasthan Royals, hiked gradually from initial bid of 1.5 Cr. was an element of shock for all, given his not so impressive performance for the Indian team in his overall career span. He may have performed well in the IPL 2017 but he had failed to impress the critics and audience in his performance during his test debut in 2010 against South Africa where he failed to score any wicket. Moreover, his below par show at the ODIs against Australia and West Indies in 2013 also puts the decision of Rajasthan Royals under a big question mark.
KL Rahul – Calling this talented batsman and occasional wicket-keeper under-qualified is certainly a wrong statement. Undoubtedly, Rahul has given some impressive performance throughout his career, becoming the second fastest batsman to score century in T20, but many like to believe his injury after 2016 has hit him hard. Also, a lot of eyes were raised when after an intense bidding, Kings XI Punjab bought him for cool 11 Cr. His previous injury and speculation of him not being in perfect shape at the moment might give Kings XI Punjab something to think about during the Premier.
Ishan Kishan – Gambles can go in either of the extreme directions and no one knows it better than Mumbai Indians. Their surprising bid of 6.2 Cr. on 19 year old uncapped player from Jharkhand might put them in a place of question in their heads in the upcoming days. The young champ with no international experience and very restricted IPL and T20 performance is under a lot of scrutinizing eyes this year.
Kedar Jadhav – When it comes M.S. Dhoni, his inclination to opt for the unconventional decisions for the team has never gone missing. The same was evident when Chennai Super Kings went ahead to place quite a high bid of 7.8 Cr. on this utility cricketer. Though, Jadhav’s underperformance, his slow strike rates and low average score runs in the IPL and T20I games put the decision of CSK at high risk.
Manish Pandey – With franchisees being restricted with only 4 international players in a matchday, their focused mainly remained on the domestic talent in this IPL auction. Though, 11 Cr. for Manish Pandey by Sunrisers Hyderabad turned all eyes in the audiences. His inconsistent performances in the last few years and average strike rate makes him a tad bit over-paid player this season.
